January 31, 2012 - Rob Lewis and TechVibes is reporting that ExtremeU has launched a new Toronto based incubator that leverages their experience over the past 3 years. Mark Evans provides additional details that includes “$7-million in funding from Extreme Venture Partners, OMERS Ventures, Rho Canada Ventures, BlackBerry Partners Fund and BDC.”

January 26, 2012 - This group of security companies includes several that want to capitalize on technology ideas that were originally devised to serve communities of special interest but could now take on a wider cybersecurity role. Fixmo, for example, has its roots in the National Security Agency where its mobile security makes it possible to run critical applications in sandboxes that are insulated from the rest of the machine, making them less likely to fall victim to malware that might have infected the device.

Heins yesterday replaced controversial RIM co-CEO's Mike Lazarides and Jim Balsillie. Analysts and industry partners think Heins may have only until December to prove his mettle. By then, they say, he must get new BlackBerry 10 smartphones out the door and get Playbook 2 tablet sales off to a good start when they begin shipping starting next month.

January 16, 2012 - Dangers continue to mount for clinicians who download commercial apps for work. A new report by security site Dark Reading warned that growing number of apps share user information with a variety of sources, often unbeknownst to the user.
We reported on this emerging phenomenon last year, but the leaks appear to be getting bigger, rather than smaller with time, according to the Dark Reading report.

January 11, 2012 - A venture capital investment of $23 million landed by Toronto mobile company Fixmo in late 2011 has already seen the company add 10 staff members, according to Fixmo chief marketing officer Tyler Lessard, bringing the total staff to 50.

December 28, 2011 - Many of my posts lately have described the challenge of securing and managing consumer devices brought from home. In the past, I've discussed the products from Good Technologies. I recently polled the CIOs of Massachusetts hospitals and found two other products that are gaining traction - Fixmo and MobileIron.

December 20, 2011 - These days we hear a lot of terms thrown about like the “Consumerization of IT” and “Bring your own device” (BYOD), and “Network health”. This is because corporations are starting to warm up to the idea that maybe if they let you bring in your personal computing devices such as smartphones and tablets, they won’t have to pay to give you one.
